Fantasy Art Sculptures
Keptar is a home remodeler by trade, specializing in tile. He has worked with several materials including clay. His long, expansive career working with cement caused him to want to create with the same material. Cement or concrete is more durable and much more challenging. At first, he created 4 foot high working light houses as both decorative pieces and as stands for mailboxes. While he has had considerable success with these, as he approaches retirement, he has taken his considerable skills in working in cement and applied them to his first love, fantasy artwork. On this page are examples of his work. All pieces are for sale. Clicking on the pictures will take you to the detail of the item.
In all of the work upon this page, the process is essentially the same. Once an idea is developed for a sculpture, a wire cage is made in the image of that sculpture. Details are slowly added to the wire cage and the concrete is layered over the wire in as many as ten layers. Each layer in this process is green cured before the next layered is applied. This process creates very hard cement (well over 3600 lbs). Other materials that are used include brick molding (for horns and teeth), glass (for eyes), and in some cases real bone (also for horns and teeth). Due to the nature of the way in which these sculptures are made, the process is a lengthy one. In some cases, over 120 hours have been spent creating just one of these sculptures. This is just the amount of time working on the sculpture itself, it does not include the amount of time for curing. In the case of dragon heads, no two are alike. They are all handmade, specialty pieces, and none will be duplicated.
